Summary
The memoir Within Reach: My Everest story is about a teenager named Mark Pfetzer going on a life changing journey of climbing Mount Everest. On his expedition on Mount Everest he encounters numerous fateful occurences. Mark is a teenager with an immense amount of perserverance. Throughout the memoir Mark always describes himself as having a passion for mountain climbing. Mark has broken numerous world records but in his memoir only describes one mountain climbing expedition more than any others, and that is Mount Everest. In the memoir he states the brutal challenge of climbing Everest. Mark and his team are faced with numerous hardships including death. When the expedition of climbing Mount Everest is over Mark experiences a revelation. He realizes that he takes life for granted and should be more respectful of the things he has. In conclusion, Within Reach: My Everest Story is a page-turner novel that features hardship and inspiration at every turn. Read it, if you dare.
Theme
The story Within Reach: My Everest story contains numerous themes of different proportions. The main theme is what I will be currently describing. Throughout the memoir Mark's main theme is to never give up. Once, Mark fails once trying to climb Mount Everest he tries it again. He continued to follow his passion for mountain climbing and has received numerous world records for his mountain climbing due to his perserverance. Clearly, Mark displays the theme of never giving up on each of his mountain expeditions. In fact, to prove the theme of never giving up, Mark Pfetzer is also a motivational speaker. He inspires other kids to follow their passions, as he did his own. Clearly, the theme to "never give up" is displayed throughout the book, by his determination to climb Mount Everest.
