Within Reach: My Everest Story

Mark's Biography

Mark Pfetzer was born in 1980. Mark started rock climbing ever since he was twelve years old. When he was 14 he had already climbed nine of the most difficult mountains to climb. When Mark Pfetzer was fifteen he had climbed Mount Everest from its difficult north side. While Mark was climbing Everest he was faced with a dilemma. It turned out his father had cancer. Once they descended from Everest they escorted his father to medical attention immediately. But it was too late on July 21, 1997 Mark's dad died of cancer. Even though they failed the trip to summit, Mark still made it into the World Records for highest climb in his age category. In fact, in May 1999 he was the youngest person ever to lead an Everest expedition. Mark has also broke numerous world records for mountain climbing. He currently resides in Middletown, RI, and takes up the career of motivational speaking.
